Good news I think. Typing "modprobe e100" got the NIC working in the Toshiba laptops. (So that is 3 x fast machines to put on the farm)
In another machine I could bring (tower PC with 2.4Ghz and 500Mb and a Broadcom 440x NIC) it looks like we might not be able to use the live_distcc_cd. Looking on the Gentoo forums bcm4400 probably needs to be compiled into the kernel. Any other ideas to get it running?
