These worked OOTB with RH9. You're right though, I do remember tinkering and tweaking a fair bit to get things just the way I like them. This is the attraction of Linux IMHO. I've never successfully set up wine on any version of RH. Mostly because I got bored and didn't persist. Mine also. In fact RH9 detected all my hardware. Also make sure you take down the ppp0 interface first and check that pppd is no longer running. Another approach is to boot from a rescue disk and reinstall the broken rpms from there. I had trouble once when one of the libraries was corrupt and the rpm installer was falling over.
