Would the fact that it has 132 2GHz athlon processors be a reasonable pointer as to why it's approximately 200 times faster than a common desktop PC?
If you want to dig a hole ten feet wide, 10 men with shovels will be about 10 times as fast as one man with a shovel.
If you want to dig a hole 10 feet deep, extra men won't help. You want a big man with a big shovel.
parallelisable problem versus non-parellelisable problem.
