lspci under Knoppix did not show up either the sound card or NIC. I will try a later Knoppix version tonight as I only had V3.1 at home. The later version may have newer drivers.
I want to try to have a compatible mobo before I install Gentoo. If the snd-via82xx driver under ALSA works (and another NIC definitely works) then maybe I can stick with this mobo. The soundcard should run happily with the snd-via82xx driver under ALSA. The nic is a 3Com SOHO, can't remember exactly. I just threw an Intel card I had handy into mine, rather than mess around with that.
