True. That means they ( Mdk ) really are a bunch of sillies! Big black cloud for Mandrake! I'll never go back there now. > What would be better- > recompile the kernel with the gcc that I have? Have you got the kernel sources for the kernel version you are using? It's a ~30Meg d/l for the sources archive file. > d/l the gcc that the kernel was compiled with, and use that to build the > pctel package? > > recommendations? A purest would recommend that you upgrade the compiler suite, but I know that that can have considerable unpleasant ramifications down the road. You do not need to hear the problems I had when the tried to do something similar at the Mdk-8.x level. For me anyway it would be easier to re-build a kernel than to d/l and build a compiler suite. However you could well have problems compiling the new kernel with an old compiler. The easiest way out would be to get a friend to compile the module for you. Using a version 3 gcc.( We are friends, arn't we?. What url did you get the source from? ) purely fyi, and not wishing to start any kind of rancourous discussion - honest - I'd just like to point out that a precompiled version Gentoo is coming out later in the week. -- Sincerely etc., Christopher Sawtell
