Open your kernel source and see whats listed there... Hermes/Orinoco, Intersil Prism, Cisco Aironet, WaveLan etc. Heres a particularly useful table http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html4.html Tells you what chipset is in various cards. The safest bet is to buy a Dlink DWL-660 which is an 11 Mbit card, using the hermes/orinoco driver. Works sweetly for me.
