How else would I know that it seg. faults?

bash-2.05b$ strings /opt/firstclass/fcc | grep mdk
/home/michael/work/mdk90/dev62/fcc/src/common/cblobfld.cpp
/home/michael/work/mdk90/dev62/fcc/src/common/ccalpane.cpp
/home/michael/work/mdk90/dev62/fcc/src/common/ccxengin.cpp

etc., etc. for many lines

I believe that this indicates that they are using Mandrake 9.0 to compile the
static binary.

The LGPL http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html in the 5th. para of the
preamble says:-
<quote>
If you link other code with the library, you must provide complete object
files to the recipients, so that they can relink them with the library after
making changes to the library and recompiling it. And you must show them
these terms so they know their rights.
</quote>

I rest my case M'Lud.

It's also interesting that the .rpm file for linux is only available from one
FirstClass distributor in Europe ( Italy iirc ). All links to the Linux
version from the main FirstClass web site have either been inactivated or
removed. It's my belief that compliance with the LGPL has proven too
difficult for FirstClass and they have stopped distributing a Linux version.
If somebody out there could correct my impressions I'd be very grateful.

A possible solution to the problem might be to use:-

http://open-steam.org/index.html?content=start_en&menu=-1&item=-1&lang=en
or
http://kolab.kroupware.org/

I have played with the former a while ago and found that it was then a
developmental release, but it would appear from the web site to have received
considerable work since. I know nothing about kolab.
