The total size of the Gentoo archive is now >> 10Gbytes.
The source archive is a dynamic thing with the gentoo file-set changing 
everyday as packages get added or updated. Doing a snapshot dl of the 
complete archive will of yield a fair number of files which will inevitably 
become useless fairly soon. The source code files are in the distfiles 
subdirectory.

As you can see there are several versions of many packages of which you will 
only need one. I have what I feel is a pretty fullsome archive of stuff, but 
it is 'only' 1790672 blocks i.e. 1.8Gb

Are you sure that's what you really want to do?
If so you could get a list of the files using the ftp command line utility and 
use wget to retrieve the files in the list one by one
