Don't worry. All the smb mount stuff under Linux changed 180 degrees
several times. It didn't used to be that an smb fs could be mounted
with mount, one had to use some obscure syntax of smbmount. Now it's
orthogonal with the rest of the filesystems via mount, and that may
partly have been achieved with wrapper scripts (who cares).

I also remember reading comments that the samba team was very unhappy
with the smb mount concept in general because it wasn't portable, but
as far as I am concerned, the proposed portable way of accessing all
files via some command with an ftp-like interface has an infinite
suckfactor compared with just mounting and be done with it.

Btw for Joe Bloggs to mount smb fs, smbmnt and smbumount must be SUID
root (not smbmount).
