I too own a (dead) Compaq DeskPro (PII/400)

Sounds OK, fan works, HD starts up but screen does not show any life - I
suspect the mobo or cpu.

Would you like to try to make one good machine from 2 very sick ones
(obviously won't work if they have the same faulty components though)

Robert

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

Subject: Power Supply Koozed?

Hi,

Went to turn on my folks Compaq Deskpro P2/333 and all that happened was:

the HDD led started flashing slowly but then got faster, a clicking sound
from the internal speaker matched the speed of led, PS fan and case fan
started slowly and built up speed (but not full speed) in time with led.
Lifted the lid and disconnected/reconnected all power cables but no
difference. Sounds ominous to me. Suggestions?

Token Linux content: it's running Mandrake 9.1.

Cheers,
Chris
