I am using the 56K Web Modem from Computer Brokers as we speak and have found the performance good. The linux box is the gateway for my home network and this is what my external modem is hanging off. The performance is better than what I get from my laptop's internal (I suspect WinModem) which is also 56k.

Sorry, don't know how that compares to the US Robotics modem.

Cheers
Glenn.

Looking to purchase an external modem to connect to an IPCop box (can't get
Treasury approval for Jetstream). I've found two likely looking candidates:

1) 56K V92 Conexant External Modem - 12 month warranty at $99.00 from the
Computer Broker
2) US Robotics 56k External Message Modem Pro (V90) at $119 from PCU

Is there any real difference between external modems? Should some be
avoided?

Any comments welcome.
