If each bit doubles the address space,
then according to moores law we need to add a bit
every 18 months.
This means that if 32 bits is only just enough now,
then in 48 years 64 bits will only just be enough.

Experience shows that extra bits are usually added when
the kludges no longer work - how long did we have to deal
with the 1024 cylinder thing? That was a PITA for a long
time after hard drives outgrew the old addressing model.
