The other option is Mandrake ;) Updates are free and are kept up with well....easy to update via urpmi too.

There is one other very big difference: update mechanisms. IMHO one of
the most important differences is the update (security or otherwise)
mechanism. (you did touch on this later in your email). rpm hell is to
be avoided. for that reason my next server (for which I already have the
hardware) will be debian or gentoo.
