I get a similar problem with history mechanisms (discussed recently on the list) when I log out, or shut down. I'm currently running some server services on my workstation, so it has an excuse to not be switched off. However, if it were not for them (and they'll be gone to a real server in a few weeks) I'd feel bad about leaving the machine powered on even overnight. Not so much now that we're not chasing 10% power savings targets, but all the same ... My iMac has a Sleep mode, which at least reduces the power requirements, but even that doesn't have a full-on suspend mode. There are definately some things that laptops are better at :-( -jim
