Get out the trusty old Win 98 boot floppy.

Use fdisk to create a custom sized partition, 5Gb is good.

Format the partition with the format exe on the boot floppy creating a fat32
partition.

Jam the win{2000, XP} CD Rom in the drive and (with 2000) find the directory
on the disk with winnt.exe, and issue the winnt command. Install should then
begin.

In the install routine you will be asked where you want the OS to go. Point it
at the custom size partition you created.

The rest of the disk can then be used by a better operating system.

PS. If you convert the custom sized partition to NTFS file system, it is a
good idea to create an additional small fat32 partition. Then you can safely
save files you need in winders from linux.
