kopete 0.72 - seems to work for me now (and if it doesn't there is
apparently a workaround to pretend you are running windows.)

This from the FAQ on the kopete web site....

I can't connect to MSN with Kopete 0.7.2. I thought this version was meant
to fix the MSN upgrade messages, not break it entirely!
Running some kernel called 2.4.22something? Kopete normally sends the kernel
version to the MSN server as a user agent, but the MSN server can't handle
words in there. So put on your best grin and fake it - add the following to
$KDEDIR/share/config/kopeterc, in the [MSN] section: UserAgent=0x0409 winnt
5.1 i386 MSNMSGR 5.0.0 MSMSGS . This way you look like a windows box and the
server lets you connect.

Most of you probably know that MS changed the protocol again and are
refusing logins to the messenger service to any client that doesn't use
the latest protocol. OK we all knoe MS sux, but a lot of people IM on their
network, some of them I even want tospeak to on occasions :-) (deja vu
to IE bundling anyone?).

Anyway, this is the result of info i have gathered so far on what works
and what doesn't:

amsn - doesn't work, right up to current version 0.82
gaim - version 0.66 - not working
gaim 0.70 - does work (yah!)
kopete 0.71 - doesn't work
kopete 0.72 - compiling now
centericq - 4.9.6 doesn't work
centericq - 4.9.7 compiling now but reported not to work by others.

any other experiences?
