I have to admit I've been guilty of telling someone that something is impossible when in fact it's just a policy issue. e.g. I sometimes tell overdue customers that the system won't let me add products to their account while it is in arrears. This is a lie to avoid the "please, please, please, I promise I'll pay the three months overdue bill tomorrow." I can imagine that everyone who asks MS techies to crack a password protected Access database has a very good reason why they should be the exception to the policy, so it's easier to say "Can't be done, sorry".
