You may be a recipient of a 'transport neutral encapsulated format' email. 
This is Microsoft truth speak for a proprietary format which was once used in 
the distant past in the mail client in windows 3.1 or similar, and lingers on 
past its use by date to frustrate non M S email client users

If the email contains the string 'application/ms-tnef' you have an email 
formatted as described.

You have two options;

Persuade your friend to change the format of their emails, or

If they adopt an attitude of offended innocence go to;
