i don't know much about linux or even ftp but anywho::

not long ago me and a few mates decided we were gonna start up a half
life:counter strike clan. so we got a few people together, and me
being the labelled computer guy of the group, i was assigned to the
task of sorting out the website.
i can't pay for anything so i signed up for free hosting at
www.portland.co.uk, actually i probably should have made the site
before finding a hosting solution. but anyway, after uploading a
little tester page which simply had the text "something big is coming"
in white text on a black background in the center of a page, all
seemed fine. THEN i tried to update the page to make it into a
redirect for the real main page (by which time i had finished). so to
do this i deleted the page i was updating and uploaded the new one.
the page was called index.html in both cases, the updated and the
tester.

now, when i typed in http://miraclesinvain.port5.com/index.html into
my browser address bar, the updated page loads. but when i type
http://miraclesinvain.port5.com without specifying the file it loads
the old tester page which was supposed to be deleted. i looked again
on my ftp browser and the tester file was indeed gone. but apparently
not gone. so currently my ftp account is apparently completely
deleted. but the old tester page still shows up. i've tried wiping my
cache and opening it with a range of other apps, opened it from
another computer and deleted all my cookies and tried it all over
again and i can safely say the problem does not lie with me and my
computer. and the problem has persisted for more 5 days so i doubt
it's gonna go away.

i'd prefer not to change host if i can. portland has a very good offer
and i'd like to stay with them even if there is some more effort
required by me to keep everything running smoothly than would be some
other host that has ads.

thanks in advance :D

yeah i know. that's the problem. i'll upload the real index.html again.
and no i didn't wipe my isp's cache but i tried on my mate's computer who has a different isp.

i've now run away from the problem by getting a new subdomain name at portland, mainly because i need the site up now or people will lose interest.
but i'd still like miraclesinvain back for my own personal projects.
