There is an interesting opinion article in the NZ Herald from Peter Griffin.
He argues that Telstra Clear's decision to drop its picks and shovels and stop its cable roll out was a punt on the Telecoms Regulator unbundling the local loop. This regulator has decided against this. Mr Griffin argues that Telstra Clear will have to "dust off plans to build its own network" if it wants to remain in the game. It seems likely at least that recent incidence of reluctance by Telstra Clear to install a drop from its kerb side box to a posters residence will be a thing of the past. At best I hope that Telstra Clear will roll out cable in my street in a rural Canterbury town.
