There are far more knowlegeable people than me in the group, but here goes. Could you use dd to copy a large portion of your damaged ptn to a file stored elsewhere, then use a hex editor to parse the file for FFE1 & FFD9, then copy the intervening code to a 2nd file for further testing/viewing. I have used khexedit on jpeg/exif files many times to suss out the various file variations. BTW a jpeg I tested from a cellphone did not have FFE0 or JFIF in it to id it. Barry
