setting up modem

hi, i am trying to setup the modem (BCM V.92 56K internal)for my dell 600m 
inpiron laptop.  whenever i attempt to connect to the internet i am told that 
my modem could not be found.  does any1 have any advice as to how i can get my 
modem to be recognized?
