No, 512M is the max, RTWT (read the whole thread ), but it is one slot
only, rendering your 256M redundant if you want to upgrade.

IMHO the lack of pcmcia is the worst thing. those cards are just so tidy
compared to a usb donble hanging off the back for wireless, one bump and
you have probably cracked your motherboard. 

By the way I think I have sussed out where these laptops come from. DSE 
list it as an ECS notebook. A bit of research shows that ecs are indeed
one of the only laptop computer makers who sell os-less laptops.

They have two transmeta 1G models noted on their current offerings on
the web page. None them seem to exactly match the specs on the dse page.

It is worth noting that the company offers more conventional laptops too,
so if the current dse trial is successful, expect to see some of those
without ms tax.

Also worth noting that although they do not bundle an OS, ECS's web site
is full of "ECS recommend Windows XP", and claims to windows
compatibility. Cannot see much refernce to windows.
