I too have had inode problems with my ext3 parttitioned drives. namely....
the PC has locked up (getting no response whatsoever over 5 minutes) result of which ive done a turned PC off (i know but with wife foaming and ranting my life is worth a bit more... I think) or rebooted. Upon restart i get usual notices of the system being switched off improperly etc etc. system does its thing i answer yes to test inodes etc and after tests i get a message to say i have XYZ percent inodes (dont know the right word/s here) waste on the partition. Now HOW do i recover or make these inodes free for my system to use again ???? I have had a look at various man pages but i maybe tooo thick but havent seen anything to say if you have bad or missing inodes use this util with these flags to fix the problem as yet. hope someone can help me see some light on this subject at least :). dave.
