I am not interested in a distro war , but it is interesting to compare
package versions between  distros, so I thought I would do that wrt
gentoo.

So, this Mandrake is pretty up to date by the look of it.

Also bear in mind that often in gentoo you can run later versions by
running them from "unstable", for example i am running gimp 2.0-pre2
very successfully, and it is VERY nice.

I guess you can do the same in mandrake by using cooker.
