Exactly. As a call centre lacky I field a lot of enquiries
from folks wanting a home LAN.
They find that the cable modem doesn't work when they plug
it into their switch/hub.
The technical folks at Paradise have advised us this is
because the CMs are not addressable like Volker says. They
will work fine if plugged into a router or a PC, but not
when plugged into a switch or a hub.

TelstraClear's attitude is - if you know what you're doing
you can do the home LAN thing, but we're not priced to
provide complex support for that sort of thing (we probably
could put together a support package, but it wouldn't be
cheap).

I don't work in that department so I can't really shed more
light on that.
