Hey, I still use CoBOL! It may be a little verbose, but given my profession, that ain't a problem, and its dead easy to understand because it is fully self documenting.
And before the knockers get at me, check the latest standards, which make it fully oo compliant and even provide for bitwise operations. Most of this is already supported by modern compilers, though I don't need it for what I do.
Updating COBOL sounds like an exercise in turd polishing.
Don't tell me how wonderful COBOL is I have to do some code maintenance on COBOL code and I think that the only place that people should be creating new COBOL code is in retirement homes for programmers that can't let go.
COBOL was the 2nd (or 3rd?) programming language ever created it's time to move on already!
(FORTRAN is crap too)
