but that would require me to write c code.
the main reason for me to use languages like python or pike is because i
do not want to write c.

so i'll stick to pike which i know to be fast (and understand why too)

that said, i have not used python enough to have any feeling of it being
slow. ie. pike may be faster, but does it make a difference?
