i'm just having difficulty getting psql to run, eg when i type psql i get:

psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket 
"/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

+ i wasn't sure whether i could add jdbc support after the program was already 
installed, i thought i'd have to specify it when installing from scratch
