Get a laptop with some kind of mobile processor. Centrino or P 4 M for intel chipsets, or you will have crap battery life which defeats the purpose of having a laptop. Get a DVD Combo drive so you can burn cds and watch DVDs. Get USB 2.0. Get s-video out, I didn't and regret it. Wireless? I only have an external monitor port, which does not hook-up to TV/VCR's, so the portable DVD player "feature" is not available. Toshiba have a worldwide warranty, good for travellers. Linux installed just fine on my Toshiba Tecra A1, as the chipset is bog standard Intel and Lucent. There should be a similar model available here, but I bought mine in Canada. I have heard good things about ASUS laptops too. Ciao,Dave
