Yes I agree that it's a ginormous magnum opus expressed with a degree of loquacious verbosity which our American cousins have raised to an art form. However, to give the authors their due, if one is starting off from no prior knowledge whatsoever it is all more or less necessary. Judging by the spew of messages in the #gentoo IRC channel not very many people can read and fully understand it.
