This type of software was once being hotly developed in linux. Since there are 
so man non dialup connections these days, and with the advent of solutions 
like ipcop that are diallers as well as firewalls, most of them have slowed 
down or stopped.

I used connect very successfully on my work lan before I got dsl. alt-connect 
was forked from connect.
