 Subject: greetings from frogland!
----

Nick,
Hey, just wanted to write a quick message to the list and wondered whether you
might pass it on - saving me from having to subscribe and unsubscribe again.
I am trying to stick to the french lists to get my french up to a passable
standard but may resubscribe once I get a job!

Really all I wanted to say was that we have arrived, have a flat and all is
well. I have been putting off looking for a job for a while and am going to
have to start looking in earnest now. Now that I have a proper internet
connection that shouldn't take too long... Here it comes...

2 megabit connection, which has been giving me around 240-250 KBs, and that's
bytes! No minimum signup period, no signup fee, for 27 euros per month. It
took about 3 weeks to come online, but is here (from the old trusty MDK 9.2).

All I can tell you is that France decided to keep it's telco publicly owned.
They have also given them explicit instructions that they are not to enter
into any anti-competitive pricing. Which means that they are heaps more
expensive, and have had to offer ADSL access (space at the end offices) to
other telcos for a pitance. The choice here is stunning. Sure I understand
all the market arguments Telescum come up with... but Vive La Libert!

Lots of love,
Keep geeking
Anton
ps We don't have much of a flat yet, but if I can get a job then you are all
welcome to come and stay (maybe not all at once though :-)).
pps. This is probably the best email to contact me on if anyone has the urge.
