Halfexpecting it to need more work when I got it home for the flat lan and internet sharing, I just plugged it in and off I went. After installing and tinkering with KDE, Evolution and Firefox, I'm writing this email from Gentoo :)
Thanks to all involved, especially Robert and Nick, for showing me an install of linux wasn't half as bad as I thought it might be. No luck with the microsoft optical mouse, though I think it _might_ be to do with compiling ohci as well as uhci support into the kernel under USB, and including a bunch of modules (trying that on my next reboot). Alsa is also getting there, compiling drivers/lib/utils as I write. Thanks again, -- Chris.
