I've got a DSE XH7916, which was superceeded by the XH1149. They're absolutely brilliant, and you're right they "just work".
I used to run the XH7916 in half-bridge mode whereby it delivers the real world IP address to a machine via DHCP, however I'm just using port forwarding now that I'm running less services from home.
$169 for the XH1149 isn't a bad deal when you consider thats a four port 10/100 switch, plus a usb network card.
My only gripe with the router is its lack of a telnet interface, and reliance on javascript of the webinterface. However a small price to pay for a fairly decent performer.
