When I use VNC on a win pc I get the desktop that the user sees.Because there is only ever one "desktop"
Because unix expects multiple users ...When I use VNC on a nix pc I don't get the desktop the user sees, I get a different one....
What's the simplest way to do this? I want to be able to view it from my win98 laptop.
Don't use VNC for running X sessions? (install cygwin/xfree86 on the windows box, and configure XDMP(?) so you can get a "logged-in X session")
Tell us what VNC software you are using? (actually, this is the common theme in my answers today, Don - tell us the package you're using, and you might be able to get some relevant answers in response. Without this info, all you can get are generalities).
Configure the VNC software to show the display of localhost:0.0 instead of what is obviously it's default of a new session.
Plug the windows PC screen and keyboard into the Linux box? Then install VNC server on the Win box and run x2vnc to control that from the Linux box.
