Well, with the Installfest coming up I have been doing heaps of testing
(playing?) with Mandrake 10 Official.

I have tried installations on empty HD's, Dual booting with WinXP and with
Win2k.
Partitioning has not been a problem - tried Qtparted on Knoppix and
SystemRescueCD, also using Mandrakes partitioning tool.
As earlier discussed, Qtparted on SystemRescueCD seems to be the best
performer.

I have tried installing from CD's and via ftp.

On late model hardware I have yet to have a problem (although I have not
tried to set up modems)

With all of these tests (9 I think now) I have found a couple of easy to
overcome "gotchas".

* At the very end of the installation process it definitely is
advisable to click the "Configure" button for each category. This takes a
couple of minutes but proves much more reliable than accepting the defaults.

* The next easy to get wrong step is at the first login (every user).
The first screen gives a questionnaire which has a "skip"
check box. When you press "Next" it seems to hang but in fact it just takes
its time (2-3 minutes). If you get impatient and click "Next" again you will
miss the next few windows which take you through the DeskTop choices and you
just get the default.

Hope this helps others.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably
worth it.
