Hi, I'm stuck. I'm trying to get xwc running. I've downloaded a source file xwc-0.91.5a-mdk.src.rpm and on double-clicking it informs me that "you have selected a source package. YOu probably didn't want to install it on your computer (installing it would allow you to make modifications to it's source cose then compile it". I chose the "Yes, really install" button, and it then I downloaded some packages to satisy dependencies. I can't figure out what to do next. Can anyone help?

Sure.

You were not supposed to download
   xwc-0.91.5a-mdk.src.rpm

You *were* supposed to download
xwc-0.91.5a-mdk.i386.rpm

The .src.rpm files are used to build the .i386.rpm file.
You are supposed to install the .i386.rpm file instead.

Roger, if I was you I'd install it using urpmi (or the Drake GUI that comes with Mandrake).

Do you have a "contrib" source configured? If not, add one, pointing it at one of:

ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/10.0/contrib/i586/
ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/9.2/contrib/i586/

according to which version of the distribution you're using, and setting the "relative path to hdlist" to:

../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist.cz

You can set this up from the Drake GUI (I'm not sitting in front of it now - I think you go to the Update Media GUI), or you can do it from the command line (as root):

urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/10.0/contrib/i586 with ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist.cz

So. Once you have a "contrib" source, you can then just install xwc from your normal Mandrake "Install Software" GUI. It sorts out all the dependencies and everything. You'll only get xwc-0.91.4patch1-16mdk.i586.rpm though, so not quite so up-to-date as the version you've been trying to download.

Hope this helps.
Douglas.
