I have solved my problems below by reinstalling from CD's (This is an old test box and 
I am testing prior to the installfest).

The FTP insallation went flawlessly on a higher spec box but had a few minor problems 
with the old hardware. I also noticed that some YaST icons were missing.

With the Installation from CD's everything seems to be fine.
