Are you sure you have the latest nvidia drivers?

When I updated my Gentoo-dev-sources kernel to 2.6.7 the nvidia 1.0.4496
driver stopped working.
The forums suggested I upgrade to 1.0.5328 and voila - it worked.

Subject: Anyone else having problems with the latest nvidia stuff?

Fellow listers,

after a few days of perfect performance from the latest nvidia drivers, I seem to have started having problems... if there is a period of incativity, they seem to hit a race condition and lock up. I have to ssh in from another server, and kill X off so I can log in again? Sound familiar to anyone???

Fedora 2 up2date except for a 2.6.7 kernel.
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.7
These modules loaded in XF86config...
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Cheapo GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x graphics card @1280x1024x24bpp
Shuttle system with XP2400cpu/1GB memory.

I'm using version 1.0-6106, which is the latest. I'm starting to wonder just how good the scheduler is... I run setiathome niced all the time, and killing that off makes a real difference. Maybe it's telling me to upgrade toBOINC, but I want to hit 7,000 data units first!

Anyone got any comments on the modules I'm loading, and whether any others are supported? Picture quality is much enhanced, but while playing with a webcam under Linux, I was still only getting 7fps ( up from 4 with nv drivers ).

Steve

The latest update from Fedora includes a new version of X and related stuff.. All is now working fine, so it looks like X.org didn't quite have their act together.
