The only downside about that is that Oracle is only certified on commercial versions of Linux... RedHat Enterprise Linux V3.0 in this case. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with the basic sentiments, and that Linux should be the back office OS of choice, these companies have generated a halfway house between true commercial Unixes ( ices? ) and free Linux.Hi <http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3577892&thesection=business&thesubsection=technology&thesecondsubsection=information>

NZX - the New Zealand stock exchange - has become the first major New Zealand company to adopt the Oracle 10g database running on Red Hat Linux.
Apart from being able to consolidate 21 databases into one, the new NZX system runs faster, more reliably and at less cost, says the company's tech team.
One key query - searching the data on historical trades to identify maximum trade values - has been cut from 36 seconds to 0.03 seconds.

In the above example, there has obviously been a serious redesign if 21 databases have been merged into 1, so apples aren't being measured against apples.
Don't get me wrong... if the market for Linux and Oracle disappears, then I'm going to have to get a new job! But Larry Ellison is the richest man in the world, and his stance on Linux is a bit of a con.
