From what I saw (as a semi-newbie), the 4th disk had a GUI interface app for X11 & something else.

PCMCIA service is kernel stuff (plain install mode, probably disk 1), but mine wasn't detected at installtime.

I had some CLUG help getting that (thanks Andrew) & the onboard modem running once, but now I can no longer boot (it hangs on PCMCIA whether the card's in or out).

Apart from starting to hate Mandrake all over again (Fedora & SuSE work better imho), I'll reinstall & retrace the simpler steps, to see if PCMCIA auto-init can be found.

Will report back if / when there's progress.

If I am to use a PCMCIA modem, will I need the 4th disk of Mandrake 10 to get it up & running?
