I was impressed by Nigel Horrock's segment - without dumbing things down too much (Linda Clarke's intro to the segment involved explaining that a "browser" was thing you type web addresses into and get to see pictures and text and stuff, so it would've been easy for him to keep it stupid...) he was suitably grave about the shortcomings of Microsoft's "compromises" on security for the sake of "ease of use" and enthusiastic about Mozilla and others as alternatives...

The only thing I thought was missing was a statement that IE is easily and regularly exploited by malicious worms/spyware/adware on nearly every user's computer (based on my experience, at least) - he mentioned better usablility of Mozilla with tabbed browsing, ease of install, and even the fact that it was open source (although I don't think he used that terminology, just that it was developed by volunteers).

If he is similarly able to elucidate in future weeks (assuming he has a regular slot replacing the remarkably generic and non-controversial status-quo supporting and therefore uninteresting Paul Reynolds), then maybe there's hope - in addition to Simon Morton's occasionally outstanding Digital Life... Cheers,

Dave

Hi is NOT FOSS freindly - I have had some dealings with him in the past. He is pro MS all the way. He is editor or Netguide Magazine for those that don't know.....

Nigel Horrocks has replaced Paul McGovern as IT commentator on National Radio (101FM, c675AM). He seems better informed about FOSS, and this morning will debunk the insecure Internet Explorer.

It should be good,
