Beaut - your video card is an Intel 810.

http://www.exocore.com/technologies/linux/i810/

The device section in /etc/X11/XF86Config should say "i810" in the Device
section
EG

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Generic Video Card"
        Driver "i810"
        VideoRam 8192
EndSection

I did answer them as best i could and it asked if it could overwrite the
        /usr/X11R6/etc/X11/XF86Config
file. Being brave and/or foolish i said "Y" but the machine complained:
failed to open filename for writing

I've had a look round and I think I know why it failed as there is no such
filepath.
        /usr/X11R
exists and contains: bin, include, lib, man and share, but no "etc"

as stated in the reply, the file is
        /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86Config

How do I get it to write to where it is and not where it thinks it is Any
suggestions as to my next step?

Hey, what if I made the directories it's looking for and created a symbolic
link to where it really is. Though I won't do that till someone says... I'm
not THAT brave!
