Thanks for all the replies over the last few days.
I was just playing around with things, trying to get my head around SuSE. I'm liking it, but am now just being a little more patient. And I've got myself really confused in past attempts at downloading the right type of file for the right distro, then being confuseds about the right command to get the install to run. Things I can do in windows really easily.
So current plan is starting again with the complete set of SuSE disks later in the week. Got to give myself a little credit, though, for having learnt a few things on my journey so far. Despite my questions since last Thursday night, I've sorted some other issues almost straight away and with less reliance on others or on googling - specifically mounting drives and getting the ethernet card configured to point to my gateway so I can get on the internet. And my confusion with the file system structure is reducing.
