Broken again.
I changed the maximum file size setting, and that fixed my original problem with DigiKam - it now shows the thumbnails OK - but somehow I've wrecked my Konq thumbnails. I'm not getting one, not on existing images, not on new images.
I have to confess that I experimented with renaming the ~/.thumbnails directory. I did this on advice from the DigiKam mailing list, hoping that it would inspire Konq to regenerate the thumbnails. The .thumbnails directory has reappeared (courtesy of Digikam?), but no thumbnails in Konq.

Konqueror has a setting which dictates which images will be thumbnailed, and which won't. In earlier versions of Konq it is fixed (at 1Mb I think), in later versions there is a setting you can get at from Settings|Configure Konquerer
Have a look at your files and check whether the ones that aren't displayed are much bigger than the ones that are.
