Now I'd like to be able to populate the list of servers without having to manually enter them using the info displayed on the notebook - can I simply grab a list from a config file somewhere on the notebook?

I think that is the same problem I encountered when I tried to use YOU for the second time (the first time worked fine but I think something was changed with the first update)
I eventually found an answer on Google and noted it at the very bottom of http://www.fisherfamily.orcon.net.nz/linuxnote.htm

Now that I have SuSE running on my notebook, I realise that there are a few minor problems with the desktop install. When I go to use the Yast Online Update tool (YOU) I first get
"could not write server list to disk."
and the list of installation sources (ftp servers) is blank. Presumably this listed in a configuration file somewhere, and I am thinking I could just copy it from notebook to desktop to populate the list. But perhaps there is more to it than meets the newbie's eye - maybe a permission problem?
My 5 minutes of googling (sorry to contradict you Douglas!) hasn't got me anywhere. Can anyone help?
Roger
