It appears that a couple of key developers have left CodeFactory (the MrProject folks) and started their own company, Imendio. One of Imendio's products is Planner, which is visually and functionally near-identical to Mr Project.
From the state of the downloads and lists it seems that development has largely ceased on MrProject and is continuing (slowly) on Planner.
I looked at ganttproject -- another project planning tool currently at release 1.10.1 -- and was a little surprised to find that it treats weekends as working days. Maybe that's how it is for the developers ... :)
