I did the same last week...
        mkswap -v1 /dev/sda1
Fine, then I wanted the other swap partition, so I type
        mkswap -v1 /dev/sda2
Instead of
        mkswap -v1 /dev/sdb1

I would have expected a mkfs.* command to check for a mounted file system
though.

when you meant to type...

mkreiserfs /dev/sdb2

(sda2 was /)

Never mind, we can now build a Gentoo box in just a couple of hours with our
recent experience.
