Up to four primary partitions, then if you want more one of those primary
has to be an extended partition into which you can put up to 60-64 logical
partitions... Not sure of the total.

As for sizes - one big partition works fine for single user/task machines.
No point crippling yourself for later.

Can anyone give me some details on how linux drives should be 
partitioned . Do they work the same as windows partitions with a single 
primary partition and a logical partition containing multiple partitions 
or can i put partitions where ever?
